randomness

I can't believe that I am already finished with 3 weeks of school! It has gone by so quickly! I suppose I will be eating my words here in a week or so.... but the thought that it is nearly mid-terms is frightening!
Anyways- week 3 was a busy one! Not only was it homecoming this week, but I also had an open house, staff meeting, and volleyball game duty all after school. Perhaps that is the reason it went so quickly... I didn't have much time to stop and think. Anyways- nothing too exciting happened, although I did have 2 of my little ones in homecoming~ and they were ADORABLE! I almost started to cry as they walked down the aisle carring the tiara/crown. They looked so perfect and innocent~ ( I know- I am soo overly emotional). Anyways- that's enough school talk.

Friday night I drove down to MPLS.... Jesse made quesadillas and we watched So You Think You Can Dance re-runs. I am totally hooked ( jesse- not so much!). Yesterday we headed to the Twins game and ate at a Greek restaurant. It was delicious and the weather was beautiful so we were able to sit outside. We tried to watch Deja Vu (with Denzel Washington) last night, but I was just too tired so I fell alseep.... It sounds like it was a pretty good movie though :)

Today we are watching the Vikings.... of course on commercials I change the channel to more Dance reruns. I have done an excessive amount of sleeping this weekend, which makes me think that either my body needs it, or I am fighting off more sore throat yuckiness-- or maybe both! I hope I am not getting sick again.... ughh!

As for my upcoming week, I am going to visit gram for her bday, have game duty again, and then CAN'T WAIT for our girls weekend of shopping in MPLS!!
Happy Fall, everyone!

HELLO MOTO!

I got a new phone this weekend. Yep- that's right, the jumbo-tron is gone... and I've now improved to the Motorola Razr. I must admit, it is pretty sweet.... although I don't get the reception out at the lake like I used to.

Just thought you'd like to know.... now you can stop teasing me about my huge phone.

I love weekends!

After another busy school week, the weekend has come ( and almost gone!). This week I learned that I have a student in my class who is named Yoda-- because she " has the power". Or at least that is what she said. Kids are funny.... We finished up our week with an apple tasting party. What fun-- and a good way to end the day Friday.

Friday night I met Jesse in Duluth. We went out for dinner at Angie's Cantina and walked around in Canal Park. It was a little chilly, but nice to be outside. There were actually more people out and about than I thought there would be! Saturday morning we hit Starbucks, the mall, Gander Mtn and Walmart before heading up to Cook. The afternoon was spent grouse hunting... and Jesse would definitely say that I am a TRUE hunter..... well, maybe not. But- I tried to suck it up and went for a walk in the woods anyways. The evening was spent with a trip to town with Bill and Erin, followed by a pretty big dinner and visiting with dad. I had to bail out early, as I was pretty tired... and I think dad could have talked all night.

Today is pretty low-key. I am patiently waiting for Laura to arrive for a visit, trying to catch up with some laundry, and then making a trip to Virginia ( I forgot I left a bag of groceries there that need to be picked up!).

Anyways- just another little update. Have a great week!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JACK!

Meeting Baby Madalena

Today I was able to meet Baby Madalena for the first time! Madi's mom and I went to high school together and have continued to stay in touch throughout our busy lives. We met up at Target for a quick shopping adventure and a bite to eat. Madalena is a beautiful baby girl-- and so good. Of course it was hard for me to do much shopping, as all I really wanted to do was cuddle her! What a sweetheart. It was a fun afternoon and great to see Dani in her new role as a mom. We had quite a few laughs in our short time together-- reminds me of old times! She's a wonderful little mommy... and I look forward to seeing her (and her hubby and Madalena) again soon!

Happy Grandparent's Day!!

Today I spent the morning with my grandparents. It was perfect. Both g&g were in good spirits and even decided they wanted to go for a ride to Pep's Bake Shop ( a favorite for a couple who used to own a bakery!) What a friendly little shop. Gram wasn't feeling up to coming inside with us, so the baker actually went out to the car to greet her, as grandpa and I picked out some tasty treats. We left with chocolate eclairs, cake donuts and fried cinnamon rolls. I ate part of mine-- it was HUGE, and then grandpa polished it off for me, along with his eclair as well! He had chocolate all over his face, just like a kid. Grandpa is definitely a guy with a sweet tooth.... If he could, he would probably choose some sort of chocolate at every meal. He LOVES it-- I have never seen anyone eat as many sweets as him. He's so adorable! Stacy and Dylan also came over to visit and I know that made their day. They certainly enjoy watching Dylan run around, and of course Stacy is always good for a few chuckles!
Anyways- Happy Grandparent's Day!

Firecracker cheers and shoe-tying time!

Well- the first two days of school are over, and I've survived! I do have an adorable class. Yesterday I had all 17 of my kids~ 7 first graders and 10 kindergarteners. Every year I forget how active those little ones are.... they have certainly tired me out! We had a great day together, switching activites nearly every 7 minutes or so. And- of course we had to take a couple of extra trips outside to expend some energy. I was working at school until about 5 until I decided I'd had enough. I got home last night and was ready for bed. I slept like a baby and had a difficult time waking up!

Today was a little different, as I only had the 7 first graders. WOW~ What a difference! The day was busy, but I am not nearly as wiped out as I was yesterday. It was great getting to know each of them a little bit better. It's definitely going to be a challenging year.... the hardest part will be working on a routine with alternate days of 7/17, and of course having kids who can read, and having little ones who don't recognize their names, or can't count beyond 4. My goal is to have the routine set within 2 weeks, and figure out a system to be able to work efficiently with both groups. Wish me luck! I must say that I think I am going to LOVE working with first graders ( not that I don't LOVE the K's... it's just different and new!). Oh- and I am sure that you will get sick of my school stories, but here's my "funny" for the day. We were talking about being different- and what makes us special, and I asked them " so what makes you special?".... and one response was "my bones".
Good enough! :)

It's been TOO hot here. I am not particularly enjoying the 91 degree weather we had today... it makes any kind of learning tough! It is supposed to cool down in a couple of days, and I am looking forward to that. I have no plans for the weekend, but I'm hoping to relax-- and maybe take a trip to Duluth. We'll see what comes along. Of course if it's still 90+ degrees outside, I'll most likely stay at the lake. I should really be taking advantage of this weather now, because I am sure I'll be complaining in a couple of months.

Ok- just wanted to post a quick entry so Erin will quit harping on me. I hope this blog finds all of you well-rested and healthy!
